Aaaaaah... a change from meta-reviewing discussions, here is some proper content. My long-to-gestate review of Frank Schatzing's The Swarm as published by Strange Horizons.
When I chose to write about Schatzing's book it was with full knowledge that I probably wouldn't enjoy it but given the continual flow of "Meh... it's okay I guess" material I had been reviewing, I felt the urge to expand my horizons towards different styles of book and free myself from my rather ample comfort zone.
Sadly though, this wasn't one of those journeys from my comfort zone where I return spiritually enlivened and more open minded. In fact, let's just say that I enjoyed writing the review far more than I enjoyed reading the book.
