Since the arrival of nylon-haired clothes horse Billi and knuckle-dragging, milk-fed goon Brian, the Big Brother house has suddenly found itself simmering away with a number of love triangles... that is if you believe the edits.
As noted elsewhere, Big Brother has been being sneaky with the editing again, creating arguments where there are none, picking sides and generally whipping up story lines where there are in fact none. Obviously, I am referring to Carole and Nicky's a propos nothing argument where the actual bone of contention was not included in the edit, thereby making it look as if Carole suddenly attacked Nicky for no reason and then refused to explain herself. However, I also think that this is going on with other housemates.
When Billi arrived in the house he expressed his appreciation for Chanelle. The producers immediately seized upon this fact as a possible future bone of contention and immediately started to gnaw away like famished terriers. in truth, Billi is a bland and potentially misogynistic himbo. A man so witless and desperate for attention that he pretends to be Italian in order to get modeling work in the same manner as the 1980's Arab playboys that would call themselves "Chris" and pretend to be greek. However, after a joke about wanting to find a girl so as to not have to sleep with blokes and some strategically deployed diary room commentary about how much he fancies Chanelle (with the footage of a producer asking him if he fancies Chanelle chopped off), a dull himbo is transformed into a charismatic metrosexual predator, waiting for his opportunity to surreptitiously seduce Chanelle.
Meanwhile, Chanelle is being unreasonable and childish about the swimming task and Ziggy is expressing doubts about the long term viability of his relationship with her. Put these two largely innocent segments together back to back and it looks as though Ziggy is getting tired of his childish female companion. If Charley were not so completely unsympathetic and the twins not so eerily dumb Big Brother would doubtless have added footage of Ziggy talking to his potential future conquest.
So, are Ziggy and Chanelle living on borrowed time?
Well, firstly, I'm not sure it makes sense to talk about "Ziggy and Chanelle". When Ziggy arrived in the house Chanelle sunk her hooks in (thereby getting herself a companion AND the valued commodity of a straight male in an all girl house) while Ziggy was happy to receive the attention because it's nice to snuggle up to something young and pretty and if you're snuggled up to one young and pretty thing you'll find yourself having less trouble fending off possible advances from other predatory housemates (such as the hideous Charley or the far more suitable a potential made Emily, RIP). To date, we've seen Ziggy and Chanelle snogging a few times and sleeping together but there has been a conspicuous absence of sex.
Ziggy's agonising over Chanelle is not so much "should we stay together?" as "should we become a couple?" there is nothing between the two of them beyond friendship and a psychologically and socially useful partnership. Should either choose to jump ship it will not be because of a "love rat" or of media-savvy Chanelle wanting to "trade up" but simply because the house dynamics have changed and the shelter the couple gave each other is no longer of value.
At this point, Billi's influence upon the Chanelle-Ziggy partnership is as great as mine.
I wondered about that argument between Nicky and Carole. I'd really like to know what caused it - Carole was actually crying!
I guess that's the art of Big Brother - making a story out of a few clips of inarticulate conversation. I suppose I could be a purest and watch the live feed, but I value my sanity too highly!
